Dinner at Vila Vita Parc Wine Cellar, “Cave De Vinhos” Algarve Portugal

During my short stay last month at Vila Vita Parc, the highlight of the visit was a dinner at their new project, the Wine Cellar “Cave de Vinhos”. This recent project features and old wine cellar, and offers during the afternoon wine tasting experiences, while through the evening exclusive dining options, for an unforggetable moment.

Their wine cellar provides access to an exclusive list of more than 12.000 bottles, carefully selected by the sommelier, while the walls of the wine cellar shows example of old 150-year-old Gothic tiles imported from Egypt, Austria and Greece.

Meet the Chef at the wine cellar, offers a memorable dining experience, for special guests who enjoy something unique and exclusive. They offer only 3 small tables for one couple each, plus one larger table for a group of 6/8. This shows how exclusive they wish for this experience to be.

Upon arrival at the Vila Vita Parc restaurant Cave de Vinhos, we were welcomed by all staff, including Mr Oscar Correia, Director of F&B from Vila Vita Parc and Herdade dos Grous. This last one, it’s a big property located in Alentejo and owned by Vila Vita Parc, where some of their most exclusive products are produced, like the black pork and pata negra ham, the olive oil and much more.

About the meal, they have à la carte menu, which we have chosen.
They also offer a Wine Menu, including 4 small plates, 1 Main dish, Desert or cheese and 3 wine glasses chosen by the sommelier for only 89EUR P.P. This is also a great option if you prefer instead.

We opted for the Portuguese cheese from the Island (Queijo Ilha Sao Jorge), cured 24 months, to start, followed by two starters, Poultry Sausage (Alheira) with clams and quail egg, and also Eggs scrambled with Asparagus and Pata Negra Ham.
For the main course, we decided for the OXTAIL Rich Stew with Turnip Purée, and was fabulous! They have other speciality as main dish, the Codfish Confited with chickpeas purée.

We cannot say enough about the sommelier, Mr. Antonio Pinto, which enriches this experience. Helpful, knowledgeble and friendly, always enjoying to share his passion. The waiter Mr Fabio was also very friendly, and the Chef Pedro Pinto came to our table to greet us couple of times and to make sure everthing was going well.
Regarding the wine pairing for the dinner, since Portugal has great quality wines, we accepted the suggestions for local wines. To start, a light white wine Pato Rebel, special edition, from Bairrada, followed by a white reserve 2014 Conde Ervideira.
While changing from the whites to the reds, the suggestion came to a 1975 red wine “Cavaleiro”, followed by a local red, moon harvest Grous 2014 special edition. To end the main dish, we were suggested the Casa Ferreirinha Reserve 1992 and that was a great choice. After desert, we couldn’t not miss one of Portugal best products, the Port Wine. We tried the 40 year-old Dom Rozes Tawny Port, what amazing choice it was!

The wine cellar has also some other rare pearls, like Madeira Port wine bottles from 1877, 1853 or 1860.

The Wine Cellar, Cave de Vinhos at Vila Vita Parc is open everyday, between 3pm and 9pm.
