After spending over $600 million USD (Six Hundred Million), The Peninsula Paris opened just last year, in 2014, one of their most luxury hotels in Paris, France. This luxury 5-star hotel, offering 200 outstanding rooms, walking distance from one of the city’s icons, Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees.
Qatar’s Katara Hospitality and The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels spent over $600 million USD on this masterpiece project, acquiring the infrastructure from the French Foreign Ministry, which had taken it over after the Second World War when it was used as the German army headquarters.
The Peninsula’s opening coincided with the reopening of other top luxury resort in the city, the Plaza Athenee, which had been shutdown for a long period for renovation works, adding another top class accomodation option for the world’s rich.
While Paris – one of the world’s most-visited cities – has less five-star hotels than New York or London, the hotel market is warming up with several modern and renewed hotels set to be opened by 2016.
Originally started as the Majestic hotel in 1908, the Peninsula Paris Hotel is set using an entire block close by the Arc de Triomphe, and is still doing its best to persuade you it is really Versailles.
